The Constant Struggle...

Self Help Means... Helping Yourself!

It isn't that we're lazy, it isn't that we're not committed, it isn't that we can't stay on the "straight and narrow". Our problem is that the evolution of our psychological faculties has backed us into a corner of mindless inattention. This is the adult human default state of mind anf because it is the default setting, we will always be inclined towards being mindless and inattentive. We can re-set our minds - but, because the universe is manifest moment-to-moment, we have to re-set our minds one moment to the next. In other words, it is a constant mental task, it requires constant attention, constant choice and constant action...

Many of my clients think I will do it for them! Many others tell me that they “need their fix” of this, that or the other “guru”. I have some news for you – and news it certainly is to many people – self-help means exactly what it says – you’ve got to help yourself, you’re the only one that can.

Sure, you can read up on the latest thinking and science in relation to how the human mind works, how this universe of ours responds to our desires and intentions. Sure, you can watch videos, attend seminars and fill your mind with all the good stuff that has emerged in recent years. But after all that, only you can change your life. Only you can control your own mind. Only you can make the difference in your life. Only you.

What does that mean? Well, as I explore a little in today’s “5Minute”Video, it means that you’ve got to be constantly attentive to your state of mind. Not now and again, not every-so-often but constantly. If you don’t help yourself constantly, you will drift back into the wilderness of mindlessness and begin to believe that self-help is a load of nonsense.

Unfortunately, for many, self help is just that – a load of nonsense. But that’s only because they’ve never taken the trouble to help themselves.
