The Importance of Being Intolerant | You're in Charge | ||||||||||
|
How are you feeling right now? If you’re calm, peaceful, in control and in flow – cool, well done, this is the state of mind in which all good things come to pass. Chances are, though, that you may be distracted, frustrated, stressed, annoyed, anxious. If you’re feeling any of these “emotions” then you need to simply stop yourself in your tracks for a moment and realize this: it’s not you who’s feeling that way – it’s your personality. The real you, the inner you, cannot feel stressed or frustrated. The real you cannot suffer from stress of anxiety. The real you is perfect. This other nonsense that you think that you’re experiencing is a figment of the imagination of the part of you that isn’t even a figment of your own imagination, but a mish-mash of the imaginations of those that made an impression on you during your formative years. Remember, that’s what your personality is – it’s a mask made up of the snapshots which you took of things, people and events that made you feel good or bad about yourself when you were young and impressionable. This mask is playing tricks on you – this part of you, the creation of your thoughts, no more, has you thinking that you’re anxious, frustrated, annoyed, whatever. But, who’s in charge? You – or do you think you’re not up to the task (a useless thought, by the way) or the shadows of your childhood? You are the master of your own life. It is you who decides where you will pay your attention. If you’re letting your personality draw your attention to useless thoughts then you’re letting yourself down. You are in charge – in this moment, in this here and now. If you choose to continue wallowing in useless thought then you’ll get what you deserve – good luck to you! You are in charge. The formative snapshots of a youthful past will always be with you – they are part of who you now are – but it is up to you whether you look at them. You’re in control of what you pay attention to – pay attention to the wonder of the here and now. |
