PROVIDING REAL LEADERSHIP | WHAT'S GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE | ||||||||||
|
It’s very easy to become frustrated and feel that we have become somehow stuck in a rut. And it’s all too easy to snuggle up within our comfort zone when the reality is that, in fact, we’re not uncomfortable enough to do something to make our lives more interesting, rewarding or, dare I say it, exciting. We can constantly rationalize why we are where we are in our lives – but rationalization is really only a nice word for excuse. And most of our excuses are lame. The fact is that it’s not what’s happening in your life right now that is important, it’s what’s happening in your head. What’s going on in your head is the determining factor in creating the life that you currently have. I’m not talking about goal setting, I’m not talking about visualization, I’m not talking in the simplistic terms of books life The Secret which will tell you that your thoughts become things. I’m making a very simply psychological point. What you’re thinking determines your state of mind. Your state of mind determines your behaviour and how you react to life’s challenges (you never act, by the way, you always react based on what’s going on in your head). The result is the life that you have at this point in time. Everything in your life – good, bad and indifferent – is borne out of state of mind – not just in terms of the major decisions that you take (or, more to the point, think that you take) but in terms of your moment to moment state of mind. It’s the little moments in your life that become defining moments and if you’re not in the right state of mind to be present and focused then your frustration with your life is simply and entirely of your own making. |
