ARE YOU GETTING YOUR KICKS FROM THE NEWS? |
LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE |

|
The fact that you are reading this suggests that you, like many like-minded people, are striving to overcome the stresses and strains of normal living and discover a peace and clarity of mind that enlightens your life. Yes, to explore the inner depths and discover calm, focus and presence is life’s most exciting journey. But be careful that you’re not striding along, thinking that you’re going somewhere, only to find that you have in fact been treading water. The steps we take in our lives have to exhibit real, concrete and meaningful results in our everyday lives. Otherwise, what is the point? What is the point of feeling calm during your morning meditation (assuming that you make the small effort to do it in the first place!) only to find yourself stressed out by mid-morning? What is the point of developing your calm if, when push comes to shove, you fly off the handle? What is the point of being serene whilst your financial situations slowly swirls its way down the toilet? Look at the evidence in your life – the concrete evidence of what you have, of what has improved, of how the fabric of your daily life is different as a result of your personal journey. If nothing worth talking about has changed – then you haven’t changed – you’ve been playing at personal development. And that’s one hell of a dangerous game, because you can fool yourself into serene inaction. If your life does not provide you with the evidence that you think you should be seeing, you need to ensure that you start each day in a clear state of mind, make doubly sure that, as the day progresses, you stop to check your state of mind – and revert to sharp and present focus if you have strayed. In particular, if there are issues in your life that are not going away, you need to take one step back, reflect in clarity of mind and understand what you (nobody else) need to do to put things right. Until your clear state of mind is brought to bear in the cut and thrust of daily living, you have been training to take the journey but yet to put your foot on the road. |
