IS USELESS THOUGHT RUINING YOUR LIFE? | PUTTING YOUR SELF FIRST | ||||||||||
|
I think that the world would be quite a different place if we were all a little more selfish. I mean good selfish – not the way in which that word is normally interpreted by normal people. In other words, I mean that you should deliberately set out to put your self first. First of all, you’ve got to know your self – who you really are. And you’ve got to ensure that your real self comes to the fore in the course of everything that you do during the course of your ordinary normal day. If you put your real self first, you will find an end to suffering – for the real you cannot feel anxious, worried, fearful, lonely nor any of all the other weird and wonderful useless thoughts that we think afflict our normal minds. But, in just the same way that the real you cannot torture you, it cannot be mean or nasty to others either. Now, stop and think about that for a moment. A world without people being mean and nasty to each other. A world where people really do love their neighbour as themselves because they’ve actually got to know themselves in the first place. A world without rancour, hatred, greed, domestic violence – the list is endless. Now, you might ask what the point is of writing such aspirational nonsense. But it’s not nonsense – Gandhi said that if you want to see change it has to start with you. Couldn’t you make an effort to change your little corner of the universe? It starts with you and you alone – only you can be responsible for your own state of mind. But, if you take the responsibility, everything then flows effortlessly. You might call it, as the ancients who knew better called it, the land of milk and honey. |
