Today's Quick Tip |
It doesn't matter how you feel or what you're doing at the moment - at the very least, you're alive and breathing. And what better way to get in touch with that powerfully good news than to take a couple of deep breaths. Realize that, in this very moment, all is well. Regardless of what is going on around you - or, more to the point, what you think is going on around you - you're here, you're alive and the universe is waiting to support you. So, here goes... three deep breaths. |

THE DISCIPLINE OF MEDITATION | GOALS - HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT'S BEST? | |||||||||
|
So much is written about goal setting that you could be forgiven for thinking that people know what goals to set for themselves. You'd be wrong! I continuously recount the story about a client who, having ascended to the throne of senior management in his chosen organization - something he had always aspired to - told me that, having climbed to the top of the hill, not only did he not like the view, he believed that he had climbed the wrong hill! As normal people, equipped with a normal mind and seeing the world from a normal perspective, we have no idea whatsoever as to what might be best for us in life. Yes - we think that we know what we want based on the herd-like behaviour of all the other normal people. Yes - we think that we know what we want based on popular opinion and what would be wrongly described as conventional wisdom. But, more often than not, we're wrong. After all, if we were right, wouldn't all the people in the world who have good jobs, nice houses and great holidays be happy? Neither you nor I know what's best for us. As such, the very best thing that we could do for ourselves would be to have the goal of being open-minded enough to spot life's opportunities as they arise. Bear in mind that they are arising all the time - it's just that we, normal people, thinking that we know best for ourselves, cannot spot opportunities outside our perceived field of vision. How to be open-minded? Open your eyes and ears to the here and now - it's where you'll find what's best for you. |
