Today's Quick Tip - Stop Indulging Yourself in Bad News. |
Focus is the key to your happiness and success. It's already hard enough to get and stay focused without deliberately distracting yourself - particularly if you're distracting yourself with all the bad news that the media peddles. So, today, turn off the radio and TV - if you really want to take a leap, don't waste your time on media websites or with newspapers either. Immersing yourself in the inevtiable bad news that you'll find in these places merely confirms to you that it's OK to be not-too-bad. It's not OK - not too bad is not good enough. |

FOCUS, CLARITY AND PRESENCE - THE KEYS TO SUCCESS | CONVENTIONAL WISDOM | ||||||||||

These two words do not go together! If psyhcology tells us anything it is that the normal person is crazy - automaticity enables us to do all routine things mindlessly. And, sooner or later, everything and everyone becomes routine. By the time we are a few weeks old we've already become habituated - we no longer pay attention to habitual things - the novelty value of things and people quickly wears off. Add to that the fact that, by the time we're eighteen months old we've constructed a framework of categories - into which we force all new events and people - so that we end up rarely experiencing anything new in our lives. To top it all off, we're constantly bombarded by random - mainly useless - thoughts, 50,000 of them each waking day. All these factors conspire to enable our subconscious pay attention to our on-board programs - the ones that 'enable' us behave and react in ways that eventually lead to us living a routine, mindless life in which we're stuck. The kind of life that normal people describe as 'not too bad'. You need to break out of this self-created box to change your life, or even the smallest aspect of it. So, when you encounter conventional wisdom, take it with the grain of salt it deserves. You've got to find your own wisdom, you've got to be your own man or woman. You've got to take control of your mind. In doing so, you will enormously influence you life and all that you want from it. |
