I know that I've been going on about this a lot recently - about how important focus us and that, without it, you're never going to achieve success and happiness effortlessly. I've also been repeating myself about how psychology tells us that the normal adult mind CANNOT focus. The simple psychological facts are clear and repeatedly proven - the normal mind is almost never present. Furthermore, neuro-psychology proves that, if we do manage to focus, we activate parts of our brain that are never otherwise activated, create for ourselves a natural high and enter into the peak performance zone. Interestingly enough, some of that research was carried out on people who were meditating. Or, in plain English, people who were unusually focused. Focus is a prerequisite for success. Focus is that state of mind that we achieve once in a while when we're overwhelmed by something special - a beautiful sunset, the birth of a child. Until you learn how to achieve that degree of focus for yourself, your life will always be a struggle - a self-imposed struggle. Now, why would you do that to yourself? |
