Get yourself a sheet of paper and write down a list of the things that make you happy - not that give you pleasure, although they're not mutually exclusive, these are two different things. When you're done ask yourself "How much time do I devote to these things?" If you're not spending enough time doing the things that make you happy, there's no point in asking yourself "Why?" - but there's every point in doing a little something to re-balance your life. |

A couple of days ago, whilst working hard on this website, I noticed that my wife, Lisa, had hardly moved in her chair out on our deck for the guts of an hour. I went out to ask her if everything was OK. "If you see me all quiet and still like this" she said, "just leave me alone - I'm doing one of the most important things I could be doing, clearing my mind. Have you ever noticed that, when we clear our minds, great things happen?" she continued. And so they do - on many workshops I mention the fact that I never get business when I'm sitting at my laptop waiting for the expected email. I always get business when I'm doing something that simply eases me into the flow of the present moment. You never get what you're looking for in life from wishing, hoping or wanting. You only get what you want out of life from doing - doing whatever it is you happen to be doing, with a clear and focused mind - it's clarity and focus that enables the energy of the universe to flow in our favour. I asked Lisa if she was doing anything in particular to help her clear her mind. "I found this book inside" she said "It's more like a set of instructions than anything else - and I've been doing the exercises from the book." Two weeks ago I said that I wouldn't recommend any more self help books - because they're mostly feelgood and do not specify or encourage specific action. But there was that does - lying on my bookcase. It's about twelve years since I read it first, but I'm recommending it to you today - see below. |
