HOW TO DEAL WITH THE CRAP IN YOUR HEADHave you got crap sloshing around in your head? Of course you have – we’re all disabled by our very own personal crap! However, if you are actually paying attention to the crap in your head, you are simply creating all the crap that you have in your life. You are what you think – not just what you think you are but, more basically and more dangerously, you and your life are the concrete result of what’s actually rattling around in that head of yours. Unfortunately, it’s not just the thoughts that you’re aware of create your life, it’s a little more subtle and more damaging than that. In fact, more than anything else, you are what you think subconsciously. Your subconscious mind rules – or, more likely, ruins – your life. All of your behaviour, everything that you do, all your reactions and every single interaction with others – those who are close to you, friends, colleagues and even strangers – everything is automatically dictated by your subconscious. And the big problem is that, because you the way your subconscious mind is wired, it all just happens effortlessly. Generally speaking, you have no hand, act or part in it. But there’s an even bigger problem. Your subconscious mind really is stocked to the rafters with all sorts of crap. First and foremost, it’s crap because it has nothing to do with who you are or what you’re supposed to be doing today – here and now. All your subconscious crap is a hangover from your childhood, when you were young and impressionable – from what we all know as our formative years. And the problem is even more dangerous and self-destructive because research shows that we are far more likely to subconsciously pay attention to negative stuff from our formative years than to the positive. This is how your behaviour is dictated, how your life is now created. And, even though all this automatic behaviour happens subconsciously, sometimes you’re actually aware of what’s going on because it becomes so blindingly obvious to you that you’re actually tripping yourself up, sabotaging an opportunity or second-guessing your best efforts. Sometimes you feel down, stressed, negative or depressed. You might feel that you’re useless, shy, stupid, foolish or inadequate. Sometimes, or in certain situations, you might feel nervous or anxious. You feel that you lack self-confidence or that you’re suffering from low self-esteem. But all these apparent feelings are just crap borne out of crap! This is the crap that has your life stuck where it is – and you’re letting it happen by paying attention – whether you know it or not – to the crap that’s lodged way down deep in your subconscious mind. How do you deal with this? How can you overcome the illusionary hurdles that you are actually putting up in front of yourself? Well, the first thing that you must realize is that this crap will not go away, it is part of who you are and how you got to where you now find yourself. However – and this is the very nub of how you can change your life, the very essence of personal development or self improvement – you can decide whether or not you give it your attention. And you can actual choose to control your attention both conscious and subconscious. As a grown adult, you can actually take full charge of your mind. You can decide, moment to moment, what you’re going to pay your attention to. Armed with this knowledge, you have to decide to turn your attention to something that is really real instead of letting your subconscious mind just lead you by the nose into an ever deepening vortex of crap. And the only thing that is really real in your life is the here and now, the present moment. Now is the only place and time that you can really be the best you. Now is the place and time where life is actually happening. What you do today will determine where you are tomorrow. All you have to do is stop paying attention to all that crap in your head by paying attention to now – to what you see, feel, hear, smell and taste right here, right now. This redirecting of your focus and your energy will drag your subconscious (sometimes kicking and screaming) away from its innate obsession with all the unreal crap that will otherwise continue to ruin your life. You see, normally you don’t really experience anything real because you see it through the fog of crap. Clear the fog by realizing that it’s not there at all! There is no fog. All that’s here is what is here in this moment. So train yourself to experience your five senses – make sense of the here and now instead of nonsense. It will change your life. |
