Today's Quick Tip |
Do something totally out of character today and see where it takes you. I'm not talking about doing something outrageous that will simply cause trouble... use your head, choose to do something that might just make a difference. Because, until you do something different, nothing different will happen. |

LIVING OUTSIDE THE BOX | A WAY OF LIFE | |||||||||

Last Monday I talked about how you can, quite literally, re-wire your brain. Emerging evidence, from the field of neuro-psychology, confirms that this process is a function of the uses to which we put our brain - the physical manifestation of our mind. If you re-wire your brain, if you change your mind, your life changes as a direct result. But, in order to change your life, you, in the first instance, have to take deliberate, consistent and regular steps to think and behave in a different way. In short, you have to consistently choose to change your life in order for your life to change! I recently spent the day with ten long-standing clients. We discussed the ongoing emergence of evidence from the field of neuro-psychology and spent much time exploring the manner in which we can get our mind working for us on an ongoing daily basis, enabling us live our ordinary lives extraordinarily. We explored and practised meditation - a powerful way to focus the mind. But, as our discussions progressed, a couple of people gradually came to the conclusion that working on one's focus and state of mind is not something that you do for five minutes each morning - it's actually a way of life. It involves making moment-to-moment choices about behaviour, action and reaction to circumstance. Above all, it demands a constant awareness of whether or not one is in the appropriate state of mind at any given moment during the course of the day. What we do in other aspects of our lives plays its part. For example, alcohol dulls the mind - and the only appropriate state of mind to be in is a clear one! Being overweight or unfit draws unnecessarily on our finite personal energy - and we need our energy to enable us pour it into what we want out of life. In the same way, overeating burns up our energetic resources. In other words, how you behave yourself in every aspect of your life impacts your life. And, you must remember that, until you get your mind working for you, your mind is simply not a neutral player in your day-to-day life. The normal mind works against the normal person. |
