Today's Quick Tip |
Do you know the difference between a normal state of mind and a focused mind? I mean, have you actually experienced it? And, if you have, how easily can you recapture that feeling? Take a few minutes to focus your mind now: |
Find somewhere where you won't be disturbed for five minutes. Close your eyes. Listen to what you hear. Don't interpret it, just notice it, observe it. Notice how the volume appears to be turned up. Of course, nobody's turned up the volume, you've just turned up your level of focus! Learn to focus on what you decide to focus on - in this case, the sounds and noises that you hear. By starting with something this simple, you can and will change how you use your mind. |

PRACTICAL TIPS FOR FOCUSING IN THE PRESENT MOMENT | EXTRAORDINARY DOING | ||||
|
Many people think that, when they begin to think extraordinarily, their lives will follow suite. That is not the case - a thought is nothing until you add your energy to it. In exactly the same way that a negative thought is irrelevant until you actually entertain it, when it then becomes worry or self-doubt, a positive thought is just a thought until you do something about it. And, of course, on the basis that we expend so much of our mental energy thinking, we're not, as normally-minded people, world-class doers. But it is doing that makes the difference. You become extraordinary when you stop thinking and start doing. It was Descartes who stated 'I think, therefore I am'. Sadly, like many a would-be philosepher, he appeared to do too much thinking about it and, consequently, in my humble opinion, was wide of the mark. It would be truer to say 'I think, therefore I'm not' - because, when we're buried in thought we are impeded in our doing. A little thinking is a dangerous thing! Instead, as I've just pointed out, extraordinary doing is what will make the difference in your life. What difference? Well, it's obvious - if you can actually point to real and tangible differences in your experience of daily life, then you have hard evidence that you're actually doing, rather than thinking about it. In other words, for example, in business, extraordinary doing must, be definition, produce real bottom-line results. Otherwise, you're deluding yourself. In your personal life, extraordinary doing must produce those magic moments, wonderful evenings when time flies because you're really there. Life is about living, not thinking about it - or worse, thinking that you're living it when you're not! |
