Today's Quick Tip |
Want to do something new and different in your life, your work? As normal people, we fear change. Yet fear is just a particularly useless thought. If you really do want to take the plunge, ask yourself 'What is the very worst thing that could happen?' A little perspective opens up a world of possibilities. If we could rid ourselves of our default fear of the worst, the best might just happen! |

HOW TO BEAT STRESS | RESULTS, RESULTS, RESULTS | ||||||||
|
At the risk of repeating myself, you are deluding yourself if you believe that you have become more focused and mindful yet have no concrete, measurable results to show for it. It is the easiest thing in the world to feel calm, focused, aware and alert for five or ten minutes early in the morning (assuming you are actually taking the trouble to mentally prepare yourself for the day ahead) yet drift into thoughtful paralysis as the day progresses. Let me give you an example of what I mean. John devotes ten to fifteen minutes each morning to focusing his mind and ensuring that he is ready to do just what needs to be done during the day ahead. He tells me that he has 'never been so focused' in his life. John's business is a shambles and his family life is not that far behind. John is delusional. Of course, just like there are degrees of madness, there are degrees of delusion. So, here's the key question... to what extent are you deluding yourself? Get a piece of paper and handwrite the answer to the following questions: What have I got to show for my efforts at focusing my mind to achieve my objectives? How is my life different now than before I ever discovered the importance of mental focus and how I can develop my ability to focus? Of course, all this assumes that you actually do take steps to develop your innate ability to focus your mind as a prerequisite to changing your life. If you've been following these Ezines (or done one of my workshops) and have not taken those steps, you're not delusional at all... you're just stupid. |
