All too often, in doing the same thing, day in, day out, we end up going through the motions. We accept this kind of life on the basis that needs must but we'll freely admit to being fed up, cranky when we get home in the evening - that is, of course, on evenings that we don't fall asleep in front of the TV! This kind of repetitive life is reality for many people and, until you call yourself to attention, this kind of life will gradually grind you down.

You need to hark back to a time when you were doing what you are doing with a purpose in mind. You need to remind yourself why you started doing this in the first place and the kick you got out of it when it was novel. You need to start diong it again as if you mean it.

On the other hand, of course, you might be doing what you're doing solely for economic reasons - to keep body and soul together. If that's the case, you have a choice - not a multiple choice but that simply makes the decision easier! You can either get out of your comfort zone and go about doing what is required to get a job that will turn you on. In the current economic environment you may think that thta's a non-starter - and it may well be. Which leads to a choice that any of us can make any day of the week,

You can decide to enjoy what you're doing, put your heart and soul into it, do it like you mean it and really and truly focus on it while you're doing it. And, when you come home in the evening, you can choose to enjoy your evening, as if every evening were a lalzy sunny Sunday afternoon. Research shows that some of the happiest people in the world are those who are doing what are, apparently, the most mundane and boring jobs.

Life is what you make it. If you choose to make nothing of it, then you're not really living at all. Worse than that, you'll start draining the life out of those around you too. Every time we breathe in and out we have a choice - am I focused, am I present, am I doing the best I can, am I having a good time? You can answer 'yes' to these questions, or lie down and die!

After all the money, all the hype, all the waiting, we're already almost half way through the London 2012 Olympics. And, as always when large groups of people get together, there will always be stories to make us chuckle.

Of course, the first point that must be made is that some of the Olympians are not normal people - they are performing at the top of their sport in sport's greatest show on earth - that is clearly abnormal. Nevertheless, there are some who simply don't know how to behave themselves - like the eight badminton players who, having get the opportunity to compete in the greatest show on earth, chose to do exactly the opposite! Or the Korean fencer who, when she lost her bout, sat in protest on the stage for the best part of an hour, in denial.

But that is not what this week's Normal People is about. It is, as always, about horribly normal people! And, you might say, it's all about the keys to success!

First of all, we had spectators who couldn't spectate - complaining that, on the first weekend, they turned up at Wimbledon to collect their prepaid tickets only to find that some clown had lost the keys to the ticket office. The players on court were wondering why the stands were half empty. It took three hours to find the keys!

Within hours of this story emerging, we were treated to something similar at Wembley Stadium - the police had borrowed the security keys to do a pre-tournament security sweep - and, you've guessed it, lost them! This time nobody found them - and it is believed to have cost tens of thousands of pounds to have the locks changed!!

Of course, you have to admit that it is likely that it was Irish people that lost all these keys... I thought I'd better say it before Daley Thompson beats me to it!!
