It's forty years since Harvard documented that doing habitual things differently significantly enhances your ability to focus. Armed with this knowledge, you'd be a fool to go through the rest of today (or any day) without thoughtfully, mindfully and deliberately doing a few small things differently. From tieing your laces the other way around, to putting your 'other' arm or leg into your clothes first; from switching the knife and fork in your hard (although, civilization being what it is, I increasingly meet people who eat with their fingers) to sitting in someone else's place at the next management meeting, your life is full of opportunities for a little focus training. So, what's it to be?

DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Recent surveys have suggested that more than two thirds of adults: don't like their work, worry about money, feel stressed (or wish they were!)... recent surveys make for depressing reading.
Why settle for that existence? Is human resilience to blame? Do we put up with too much? Are we afraid to change? Do we realize that change is but a step away (and not a big step, at that)?
If you want to take a step in the right direction, have a look over the forthcoming workshops that I'll be running this Autumn and Winter.
Today's Reflection
SOME FLOWERS IN YOUR HAIR
I see that Scott McKenzie passed away over the weekend - the guy who suggested that, if you're going to San Fransicso, you might consider wearing a flower or two in your hair! Where have all the people gone who, forty five years ago, thought that a little love and kindness could change the world? Could it be that some of them rose to positions of power and, having done so, realized that power was a more powerful mind-altering drug than something you smoke?
And whilst I'm not advocating mind-altering drugs (quite the opposite in fact), I am suggesting that a little mind-altering wouldn't go astray. You need an altered mind - after all, the normal state of mind simply hasn't worked - if you're looking for evidence, look no further than property bubbles, greedy bankers, greedy customers, greedy everybody!
Neuro-psychology has now establised that, when you meditate, you alter your own mind. You become clear, you develop focus. And focus isn't just the key to success, it's the key to health and happiness too.
So, where are the gentle people - and could the gentle people change their lives?

TRANCE STATE
Chances are that you're not living the life that you want and, in fact, you're going through the motions day after day. Fact is that the normal mind is "not all there" - it is either subconsciously living in your childhood years or actively worrying about the future. To get the life you want, you're going to have to start living in the only time and place there is - here and now. You've got to turn up to life to live it. If you do, you're life will change beyond all recognition. Read the full article...
