You have no idea who you are going to bump into today. In the past, there have been days when you've met total strangers who became some of the most pivotal or important people in your life. You don't know when you're going to meet the next one. You might think you do - but we all know how useful thought is.
So, as today progresses, keep reminding yourself to keep your eyes open - a new person, an important piece of information, an insightful thought or comment... these are the signposts on the road to success.
As you know, from time to time, we explore the mysterious and bizarre world of normal people! If you open your eyes, you'll notice all kinds of bizarre behaviour around you - some of it entertaining, some less so...
Much research has been done over recent years into the phenomenon of suicide amongst young people - university going males seem to be particularly susceptible.
Our youngest daughter was home from university last weekend, telling us that she had had a wonderful night out on Thursday. Now, I know what you're thinking and, in the case of most Thursdays (and early Friday mornings!), you'd be right. But, last Thursday, her whole year had to go to an obligatory cultural event...
A play that didn't just explore teenage depression and suicide - all the main characters killed themselves.
Today's Reflection
THE STRUGGLE WITHIN
At times, we could be forgiven for thinking that there are two of us... the one who really wants to succeed, achieve and be happy and the other one who keeps throwing a spanner in the works. That spanner comes in all shapes and sizes - from inappropriate behaviour at the most inappropriate moment to that little inner voice that tells you that you're not as good as you'd like to think you are.
For all of your adult life - until you decide otherwise - there is an imposter running your show. It's called your personality. Your personality is a creation fashioned from the numerous psychological snapshots of events that made you feel good or, more often, bad about yourself during your formative years. Your personality, subconsciously, dictates how you perceive what's going on and, consequently, manages how you behave or misbehave.
Your personality is not real - it couldn't be. But it sure damn feels real enough! How often have you found yourself shying away from doing the key things that you need to do to get to where you want to go... simply because you'd feel uncomfortable doing them? How often have you found yourself wasting time on stuff that gets you nowhere - because it keeps you comfortable (or not too uncomfortable)? How often have you found yourself questioning your own abilities? None of these things are real. For that matter, none of your perceived strenghts are really real either - they might even be holding you back from what you could really achieve.
Winning the struggle between you and your personality is a matter of life and death. If you lose, as you sleepwalk your way through life, you're as good as dead. If you win your life is transformed - there is nothing that you cannot do, nowhere that you cannot go, ain't no mountain high enough! The point is, though, that you've got to keep winning every single day!
