THE PURPOSE IN PURSPOSEFUL MINDFULNESS
WHAT AM I DOING?
Do you know why you're doing what you're doing now? How does what you're doing now relate to today's purpose(s) and, most importantly, how does it relate to your current purpose, right now? If you cannot answer some or all of these questions, stop what you're doing, evaluate what the hell is going on, pull yourself together and start afresh... now!
YOUR LIFE IS JUST AS IT SHOULD BE
Things are just how they should be at this moment in time. They are this way because of everything you've done or failed to do in every now up to now. They are the result of every choice you've made or failed to make. This last phrase is very important because, most of the time, we fail to deliberately make a deliberate, conscious and appropriate choice.
What choice am I talking about? How to behave myself in the present moment. Behave covers a multitude: what I am doing, how I am doing it, how I'm relating to those around me. Mostly, we misbehave because, in the absence of making that conscious choice, our autopilot makes the choice for us... automatically. It cannot make a valid choice because its automated choice is guided by our stored knowledge - key information that we learned about ourselves and our world, rightly or wrongly, during our formative years. In other words, in determining how we will behave ourselves now, we are guided by psychological input that is totally unrelated to now. This single fact is responsible for all bad behaviour you have either ever encountered or perpetrated yourself.
All these choices - conscious or automated - add up to now. As the old saying goes: "you've made your bed, lie on it". But that saying doesn't take into account the fact that you can always remake your bed. Future nows are determined by all the choices that you will have made in each now up to then - you can start remaking your life in this very moment. If you don't take the opportunity afforded by this very moment, when had you planned on doing the things that would enable you achieve all your goals, objectives and purposes?
Today's video talks about purpose now. Now is all you have. Tomorrow is created today. Everything starts from now... you had better be purposefully mindful now: your life depends upon it.
HEADING FOR THE NEW YEAR
It's hard to believe that we're nearing the end of another year. Hard to believe that, once again, the one couple that we do not want to invite us to their New Year party will not invite us yet again... happy days!!
Nonsense aside, we're entering into those couple of weeks when people tend to take stock. All too often, the stock that will be taken this year will not be much different to previous years... a lot of what we would like to achieve is probably well past its Best Before Date!
Next year could be completely different. Tomorrow, of course, could be completely different - tomorrow's experiences will be dictated by today's behaviours. But let's keep things simple, let's use the opportunity that the year end affords us to start doing little things differently, to start checking ourselves to see if what we're doing now fits with where we want to go.
And, as the year draws to a close, let's dream big - let's wander outside the constraints imposed by nomal-mindedness... but more about this next week.
