Our current video series is all about leadership and, as we know, that starts with your taking an active part in leading your own life. So, today, right now in fact, I want you to consider the following questions. How does what you've done so far today stack up in terms of your taking the lead role in your life? What have you done today about leading your life towards the goals and objectives you would dearly like to achieve? What role have others played in leading you on a merry (or not so merry) dance today that has nothing to do with how you want to lead your life? It's not how you answer these questions that matters, what matters is what you do next.
And a Few More Thoughts!
WHAT YOU DO NEXT
Today's Quick Tip ends with the suggestion that what you do next is what matters. What you do in any now matters - but this now is the most important because it is the only real moment, for now, that you have. It is the only place and time that you can do what you need to do. You could plan to do something important in some future now but, human nature being what it is, find yourself otherwise engaged or mentally preoccupied (as we normally are unbeknownst to ourselves) when push comes to shove.
In fact, when push comes to shove, our preference is to do nothing out of the ordinary. We prefer repetitive mindless reaction. We like being busy and hate being brave. I've often heard people say, to people who I would regard as extraordinarily succesful people, things like: "That was such a brave move" or "What a courageous decision to take". But bravery and courageous are words used by normal (all too crazy) people to decribe what extraordinarily successful people know to be the blindingly obvious thing to do. They never think in terms of courage or bravery... just what's best to do next.
So, what you do right now will dictate what kind of life you have in the future. It has ever been thus. What you did or didn't do in the past has got you to now. What you do or don't do now will get you to the next now and so on. If you want to change anything in your life you need to change what you're doing now. Whether you want to be slimmer, fitter, faster, funnier, sexier, happier, more assertive, more successful, richer, whatever... your ability to achieve your goals depends on what you do now.
If you do nothing different now the one and only thing that you can be sure of is that, in the next now, you'll be older.
