Today's tip is short, sweet and to the point: take a few minutes to reflect on how you would like the next big thing, that you have to do, go for you - how would you like things to turn out? Think only about the desired outcome - not how you're going to get there - think about how you'll feel. Handwrite how you'll feel, what you'll see and hear and even what you'll smell (the sweet smell of success!) and taste...
GEARING UP FOR THE END OF YEAR
We're heading in the direction of the year end - a time when we normally get a breather, a time when we consider the year that's ending and what we might like to achieve in the year to come. Yes, it's something of an artificial ending and new beginning - because every morning or, in fact, every moment is an ending and beginning - but it is just that little bit different because we all have a little time on our hands around Christmas and year end.
Now, I know that the Christmas holidays see a spike in alcohol-related incidents and domestic violence - interesting insights into how we react to a lack of the normal mind-numbing daily routine - but, obviously, that's not what I'm talking about! Before the holidays start, set your mind on a course of action. Begin by posing a couple of questions for yourself.
"As I approach another year, have I lived up to my own expectations during this one?" Now, of course, you may have had low expectations - that would be normal, the normal mind normally ensures that we live down to our deepest-held expectations - or you may have had none: Harvard's conclusion that less than 10% of people have concrete goals is alarming. If you fall into one of these unfortunate categories, rephrase the question: "How happy am I with where I've got to during the year?" This first question is simply by way of preamble... the second one is designed to get the creative juices flowing.
"How do I want to feel when I take a similar breather this time next year?" Notice that I haven't suggested that you ask yourself what you want to achieve - the question that I'm suggesting relates to how you will feel this time next year, having achieved it! Let your mind daydream - let it "off the leash" of normal constrained and negatively predisposed thought - let your imagination run riot.
For now, don't answer these questions - just give your head the time and space to roll them around. Over the coming break allow your mind to wander - allow it the time to begin to lead you to the kind of place that the normal mind cannot go because, if your answer to the first question isn't all that it should be, it's probably time that you disengaged your normal crazy mind and let the intuitive you have a shot at leading your life.
