Our son, David, spent the Christmas and New Year with us - he hadn't been at home for that long in a good couple of years. Having flown home from Paris, we began talking about the madness of people when they are outside their normal comfort zone or even simply not in their day-to-day routine. David mentioned that, while he was waiting at his departure gate at Paris Charles de Gaulle, a couple of people came running down the Departure Lounge to arrive at an empty departure gate - not only had their flight closed, the plane was gone - at nine o'clock on the night before Christmas Eve!
But, David noticed something very interesting - both the guy and the girl were weighed down with Duty Free shopping - they had time for the shops but couldn't be in time for the plane. That's when it dawned on me. Over the last year, I've witnessed seven or eight people arrive to a closed Departure Gate. Some were successful and managed to board their plane. Some were unsuccessful and were left watching the red tail-lights of the plane as is soared into the sky. All had one thing in common: they all had Duty Free bags!
A Quick Tip
HELP WHEN YOU DON'T NEED IT
All to often, we reach out for help after we need it: people pray when they're already in trouble or restart meditating after they've lost the plot. Reach out - or, in actual fact, reach in - for help before you need it and you'll never actaully or badly need it! Meditate today. Mini-Meditate in a calm moment, not to find calm but whilst you're already calm. Keep building your purposeful focus when you don't need it so you're in the zone when you do.
1-DAY WORKSHOP - THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SUCCESS
In one intensive but relaxed day, you will learn what is wrong with our normal neural "wiring" and how, as a result, our mind normally works against us. You will learn how to:
Purposefully focus - it doesn't come naturally, we're actually "wired" to not focus
Set goals in a way that energizes your subconscious into focused effortless action
Make your very best decisions and solve problems with ease - your brain can do this effortlessly
Banish stress - we're ordinarily "wired" to be stressed
You can meditate to clear your mind. You can meditate to develop your moment-to-moment focus. You can meditate to reverse the physical effects of stress - decrease your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, boost your immune system, enhance the functionality of your digestive system, reverse the build-up of bad cholesterol in the cardio-vascular system. You can meditate to overcome depression - meditation has a track-record second to none when it comes to treating chronic depression. And, of course, you can meditate to get a better understanding of who you are and, as a result, be a better you, a more effective you, an effortless you.
But these are simply given "side-effects" of meditation. And those side effects flow all the more freely when we simply meditate to meditate - the core message of today's video. If we meditate with no purpose other than to meditate, we further open our minds to all the possibilities. All the possibilities of what? Only you will discover that for yourself as you further enhance your ability to be present, in the here and now, in communion with the moment.
All too often, people tell me that they are meditating on their goals - that's not meditation. Or they're meditating to overcome stress - that's not meditation either. In either case, we're talking about fixing our mind onto a particular issue or objective - and there are thousands of others that you could "meditate on" too! Meditation is not about fixing your mind on something, it's about opening your mind and, with time and practice, opening your mind completely. And, once you open your mind completely, you won't recognize yourself, nor your world, nor those around you - everything will be experienced with fresh eyes, a fresh you.
But you shouldn't even meditate with that in mind! It's just another "side effect"!
