Not everyone realizes how good it is to simply be alive. Michael's business was struggling a little - enough to necessitate trimming the family's holiday plans. This year, they would only take one foreign holiday and it would have to be for just three weeks! As I said, Michael's business was struggling just a little! Luara, Michael's wife, however, couldn't cope - she was concerned that the neighbours in the upmarket area that they lived would sneer at people who couldn't take what she called "seasonal holidays" - one for each of the four seasons! It got to the point where Laura threatened to leave Michael and that's when he 'phoned me! "Have you any suggestions?" he asked. "Yes" I said "I'll come over and help Laura pack her bags!!"
A Quick Tip
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL
Take a moment to feel and experience a couple of long deep breaths. They don't need to be so noisy or theatrical as to attract anyone else's attention... you're simply trying to attract your own attention! Feel the air in your nostrils, experience the movement of your body. Smile. Life is beautiful just at this moment.
ALL ABOUT FOCUS, GOAL-SETTING, DECISION-MAKING & (NO MORE) STRESS
In one intensive but relaxed day, you will learn what is wrong with our normal neural "wiring" and how, as a result, our mind normally works against us. You will learn how to:
Purposefully focus - it doesn't come naturally, we're actually "wired" to not focus
Set goals in a way that energizes your subconscious into focused effortless action
Make your very best decisions and solve problems with ease - your brain can do this effortlessly
Banish stress - we're ordinarily "wired" to be stressed
Sometimes, during my workshops, I talk about a friend who had struggled with discomfort when making a speech or presentation. And, in talking about him, we often end up talking about how good life should be whilst we still have the opportunity to life it for, sadly, my friend died a difficult death at an appallingly young age. Again, last week, a client and I considered how "good we have it" compared to someone who had, again, passed on far to young. My client asked "We appreciated our lives in such circumstances but how can we bring the appreciation into our daily lives and, then, hold onto it?"
In life, many things happen that prompt us to be thankful for what we have. Unfortunately, this appreciation is comparative - we think how lucky or blessed we are in comparison to those who are suffering or worse. That's why the appreciation doesn't last - because these events pass from our consciousness as quickly as the snow outside my window will melt - and, then, we're back to our ordinary everyday existence that rarely amounts to much more than making it through the day.
What we need to do - as today's Quick Tip suggests - is realize the wonder of what we have in absolute terms. I am alive now, I am breathing in and out and, with each breath that I take, I am experiencing the wonder of now. A client recently told me that he was in awe of the wonder of now when he found himself, alone in his off-shore fishing boat, with only the clouds and horizon for company. We need to bring that awe into the here and now. We need to be grateful, now, for what we have, not in comparison to someone else, but simply grateful.
My wife, Lisa, often says that happiness is wanting what you have. At this moment in time, armed with health, a roof over our head and the necessities of life looked after, happiness is to be found in the wonder of each breath that you take. Attract your own attention to that fact!
