Strolled over to the Post Office a couple of days ago... again. My walk takes me past a Charity Shop where people drop off things like clothes, cookware. To facilitate those drop-offs, there's a big carpark out front... which is not where the good citizens of Sallanches park! Instead, they park on the path - blocking the path completely - on the other side of the road: outside the town's playschool and facility for special needs people. Those doing their bit for charity ensure that the blind people who use the centre walk straight into parked cars! And the only way they can get past is by walking on the road! Blind.
A Quick Tip
STEADY AS SHE GOES!
As Today's Video explores, deliberately decide, now, at what time(s) later on today you will stop to give yourself a magic moment of the non-judgemental simple effortless pleasure of experiencing, through one or more of your five senses, the wonderful reality of now. Choose a random time(s) - and don't wait until you need to steady yourself (as a result of lack of focus, annoyance or frustration) - steady yourself when you're already steady and the steadiness of mind will inexorably grow.
ALL ABOUT FOCUS, GOAL-SETTING, DECISION-MAKING & (NO MORE) STRESS
In one intensive but relaxed day, you will learn what is wrong with our normal neural "wiring" and how, as a result, our mind normally works against us. You will learn how to:
Purposefully focus - it doesn't come naturally, we're actually "wired" to not focus
Set goals in a way that energizes your subconscious into focused effortless action
Make your very best decisions and solve problems with ease - your brain can do this effortlessly
Banish stress - we're ordinarily "wired" to be stressed
Mindfulness is cumulative. Every time you practice a mindfulness exercise - whether it be a formal meditation, a "mini-meditation", a moment's observation of the reality of now, the deliberate tasting of your food, a yoga exercise or a breathing exercise, every step you take builds on all the steps that have gone before and, unlike physical exercise, you never go backwards.
Once you've opened the door to mindfulness, there is no going back. Yes, you will stumble and fall. You may even turn your back on doing the necessary on a regular basis to enhace your ability to be focused and present. But, no, you will never lose any of the experiential learning that comes with each step we take on the journey of mindfulness or purposeful focus. And, if you do wander away for even a protracted period of time, the spark within that mindfulness kindles will niggle at you, tug at your elbow, grate on your nerves, urge you and cajole you to take the next steps, however faltering they may be.
It's interesting the number of clients who say to me that they are aware how unfocused they are, how undisciplined they are, how ineffective some (or all!) of their thinking processes are. They say "I am nowhere near what I should or could be in terms of being focused". But, on each and every occasion my response is "You're already way ahead of (so-called) normal crazy people, you're already well down the path to focus, mindfulness and effortless success because, unlike normally-minded people, you are aware of how dysfunctional your normal-mindedness is. And not many people know that!!
So, if you've fallen by the wayside, off the wago, horse or stool, if doesn't matter. You will not lose what you have already found, there is no going back. It doesn't matter that you may have wasted days, weeks, months or even years not doing what you need to do every day to enhance your purposeful focus. And, certainly, there is no merit in feeling frustrated or guilty that you haven't done all that should be done. There's only on thing that matters and that is what you do in this next now... that choice is, as always, entirely up to you.
