Keep yourself on your toes today... constantly observe whether you're doing the right thing or the wrong thing, whether you feel focused or all over the place, whether you're calm or stressed, whether you feel centred or lost. Keep yourself on your toes when it doesn't matter, so you're primed for right action when it does.
Any public place is an opportunity for entertainment - whether it be a train station, airport lounge or hotel. It's a hotel I want to talk about today! Breakfast starts at 7.30am - a little late for a hotel catering for business people - but there you are! I arrive at 7.28am, there's already someone waiting, with his bags, already checked out, ready to go, in a hurry. The doors to the dining room are locked... keep the customers out at all costs until the witching hour! A little after 7.30am, the doors are slowly unlocked - as if the staff were teasing the guests. My man rushes in, gives his room number and is ushered, at a gentle speed, to his table... so gentle you couldn't really call it speed at all. He is given the menu and, obviously ready to order, the waitress turns her back and leaves. She returns to the desk to get me... the same ceremonial drill takes place. I sit down and watch. My friend is getting fidgety and annoyed. At last, the waitress heads towards his table, pen and paper at the ready. But she doesn't make it... she takes a sharp turn left and disappears only to emerge a couple of minutes later with a tray of salts and peppers. Slowly, with a practiced elegance, she proceeds to put salt and pepper on a number of empty tables... there are only two guests in the restaurant, both waiting for her, and she's tending empty tables! My friend is visibly seething - but the waitress is oblivious - she disappears again with the empty tray. A couple of minutes later, all sweetness and light, she moves towards him to take his order... someone needs to get her priorities right!
Now, I know straight away that, as I announce my new App, some of you will say "It's about bloody time" - and so it is (it is, to be fair, the last piece of a jigsaw that's taken over four years to put together).

And, as you might imagine, the App is not all about meditation - even though meditation is a key feature. There's more to mindfulness than the training... a lot more, it's called living!
IT'S CLICKED
I received an email from a client on Saturday morning which started with the immortal words: "It's clicked"... I love getting emails like that! He went on to explain that, since embarking on his journey toward purposeful mindfulness, he had experienced the same kind of business results that he had ordinarily expected and had started to wonder whether there was anything in this mindfulness thing at all!
He then reveiwed the previous couple of months and, sure enough, business results were just as he would have ordinarily expected but his review threw up something else. Business was flowing nicely, new orders were coming in without any of the normal pushing or shoving, he was spending a lot less time working and he had had "so much more fun" with his family and young children. He realized that he was doing and achieving what he normally did and achieved from a business perspective... effortlessly, stress-free. He realized that he is now living his ordinary life extraordinarily, one of the first paybacks of purposeful mindfulness or focus.
Neuroscience confirms that, if we know why we're doing what we're doing, we do it much more easily. And, if we know, in advance, how it will feel when we achieve what we want to achieve, we do what we need to do effortlessly, using almost no neural energy at all... our ordinary lives become effortless.
So, my first point this morning is this - more of a question really: do you find that your daily life is effortless? If not, there are a couple of ingredients, just a couple. You need to meditate - that enables you do just what you're doing. And you need to visualize how it feels to achieve your objective(s)... that's the why or, in fact, an "enhanced why". These two simple ingredients will transform what you do and how you do it.
Of course, the next thing that I now need to talk to my client about is setting some extraordinary outcomes for himself. Then, he can start living is extraordinary life extraordinarily... effortlessly.
