Wherever you find yourself today, take five minutes to stop and observe what's going on. Just observe, don't make any judgement on what you're experiencing, just experience it. When your mind wanders (our minds are made to wander!) let the next person or thing in your field of vision capture your attention... just observe non-judgementally for five minutes.
I keep telling my clients that airports are great places to observe the madness of normal people - I think particularly so becuase, out of our routine, our autopilot is often at a loss. As a friend of ours who works in the tourist business here says, when people go on holidays they leave their brains at home! So, there I am standing between two departure gates at Dublin Airport, observing. The slightest sign of activity at the gate and people start standing in a queue even though it should be obvious to someone who's even half awake, that the plane has not yet even arrived! People jostling for position and, as one flight is actually called, this woman, laden with far too much hand baggage (the kind of person who complains that there's not enough space in the overhead bin!) bullies her way past a whole line of people to present her passport and boarding card. The air hostess on the gate says plainly "This is the flight to Frankfurt. Your flight, to Toronto, is at the Gate just behind you... the one that's announcing last call!" I told you, all human life is on display in the airport!

WHAT CAN I TELL THEM IN TEN MINUTES?
Often, when people sign up for this Ezine, the initial feedback is that some of the concepts are a little foreign or strange... they're certainly strange to the Normal Crazy Mind!! Often, people land on their first Ezine in the middle of one of my crusades about focus or meditation or the madness of normality. And, often, I forget that not everyone who sits down to watch a video or read a few words has immersed themselves in an understanding of the compelling need for mindfulness. I say "compelling" because, if you don't develop mindfulness, you'll stay mindless and, whilst evolution has seen to it that automated mindlessness enables us make it through the day, I'd hardly call that living, would you?
So, today, I'm going back to basics. This is not just prompted by the aforementioned feedback but by a friend who has been given a ten minute slot to explain mindfulness and focus to a working group in the UK next week.. ten minutes! In panicked preparation, she asked for my advice. "What are the three or four key points I should make?" she asked. I told her that there are only two and, when she'd made them, she could spend the remaining nine minutes meditating with the members of the working group! I'm not sure that helped her!
I explained. Number One: you must take deliberate daily steps to manage your mind or your mind will automatically mis-manage you. Number Two: You must decide to what end(s) your going to use your newly-managed mind. Number One is mindfulness, Number Two is goal-setting or purpose. The two together equal purposeful mindfulness... a recipe for getting what is best for you out of life effortlessly. So, in reality, she really has nine minutes for meditation!!
DO YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND AND EXPERIENCE PURPOSEFUL MINDFULNESS?
In one intensive but relaxed day, you will learn what is wrong with our normal neural "wiring" and how, as a result, our mind normally works against us. You will learn how to:
Purposefully focus - it doesn't come naturally, we're actually "wired" to not focus
Set goals in a way that energizes your subconscious into focused effortless action
Make your very best decisions and solve problems with ease - your brain can do this effortlessly
Banish stress - we're ordinarily "wired" to be stressed
