EFFECTIVE DECISION MAKING | COMPLACENCY - THE SUBTLE ENEMY | ||||||||||
|
At least obvious signs that our lives are not all that they should be – anxiety, worry, stress, fear – are often catalysts to take some action. But there is nothing worse than complacency. Complacency is a far more subtle enemy than stress or fear. It lulls you into the false sense of security that things are alright. Far worse than that, complacency gives tacit permission to our subconscious mind to revert to type – to wander aimlessly back to its default settings where the focus is on a childhood past long gone, where we are subconsciously entertained by the nagging and subtle doubts that, in the end, create our lives – our alright lives. But alright is really not good enough. Our lives should be full of excitement, challenge, spontaneity, wonder and fulfilment. Our lives can be anything that we want them to be – but our own self-satisfaction (one that compares us with other normal lunatics) gives way to slippery slope at the bottom of which our own deepest held beliefs are waiting to mug us. You’ve got to constantly stretch yourself. Life is a journey – there is no destination – that should daily take you onwards and upwards to enable you scale the highest peaks of effortless success and happiness. Of course, peace of mind is also a key ingredient in a life being lived to the full. But there’s a very thin line between peace of mind and complacency. Don’t cross that thin line because, if you do, your subconscious is only too willing and able to drag you into the mire of subtle, artful useless thought that leads back to a normality that in no way should be the norm for living. If you haven’t stretched yourself today, if you haven’t challenged yourself, if you find that you’ve settled into a particular way of living, you’re on a slippery slope. Don’t let it take you down – because take you down it will. |
